The Joy of Small Jobs - Engine Sump

A really dirty job, but great to have it out of the way. The sump had approximately a litre of oil still in it, and at the bottom, the oil had congealed to a 'jelly-like' state. I'm guessing that's not ideal?? Having emptied the sump, I tried a combination of engine degreaser and brake cleaner. It was trial and error but this worked a treat - as you can see below. I've since been advised that brake cleaner shouldn't be used on plastic or rubber as it can degrade the material. Thanks to Grover The Rover for the tip.

Engine Sump - Before emptying and scraping out the oil.

I'm going to sand it down further and re-paint with engine paint.
